New Mold Layout

In this section, you will learn how to start a new mold layout.

You will not be able to run this tutorial from this point if you did not complete the previous page "Setup".

Open the existing mld_hub_bottom.MFG file. This is the result of the creation of a mold core and cavity design; we will design a mold layout around this assembly.

to start the Mold Layout application; you are sent to the File New dialog box:

Create a new Assembly of the sub type Mold Layout and name it mld_hub_bot_lay for example. The rest is up to you; this example uses millimeters.

If you pick  or from the side menu, Mold Cavity, this would simply send you to the previous window (the core and cavity design window). Just pick  again to come back to this same point.

Pick  or from the menu Locate Cavity to enter the Layout dialog box. This UI is similar to the UI you used to place the reference model to create the mold design assembly.

  • Simply select the assembly MLD_HUB_BOTTOM.ASM with all the default values and OK to validate.
  • You notice that, as with mold core and cavity creation, you can assemble more than one core and cavity assembly using the automatic creation of patterns (rectangular, circular...)

The result is that the core/cavity assembly is assembled automatically in the new layout assembly.

At this point, we need to take some measurements to be able to select what mold base should be chosen.

Select Analysis > Measure > Length

  • You will measure that the core/cavity assembly is a square base of 135mm x 135mm,
  • The CORE height is 30.14 mm
  • The CAVITY height is 39.86 mm
